Institute of Philosophy and Sociology

The Institute of Philosophy and Sociology (IPS) is the biggest social and humanitarian sciences institute within the Bulgarian Academy of sciences. It conducts complex theoretical and empirical, fundamental and applied philosophical and sociological research with the mission to ensure adequate knowledge of social processes, to contribute to optimizing policy making and to communicate scientific findings to the general public. IPS has a long record of developing and coordinating social and interdisciplinary research on urban agriculture, urban-rural relationships and sustainable urban development. It has coordinated a number of research projects on urban agriculture and its effects on the quality of life of urban communities. The IPS representatives in FOODCITYBOOST participate in a series of European and international programmes on multi-actor agricultural development through innovations. The work in these programmes involves intensive liaising and cooperation with local and international stakeholders, policy-makers, the business and civil society.
