“Unlocking Europe’s urban agriculture potential”

The project links up with more than 100 stakeholders through six living labs, to evaluate urban agriculture potential and current and potential policies. FOODCITYBOOST hence aims to assist policymakers through quantified impact assessment, supported by policy briefs, drive innovation around sustainable urban farming practices, and enhance collaboration between stakeholders at different scales and locations. Through its activities, FOODCITYBOOST will answer the urgent need expressed both by policy makers and practitioners, of knowledge regarding benefit, impacts, and risks linked to urban agriculture.

Considering the project’s launch, the Project Coordinator, Pierre Chopin from IVM Institute, made the following statement: “Urban gardens, rooftop agriculture, and indoor cultivation under LED lights are versatile agricultural systems that have become integral parts of the food system and the lives of European citizens. However, the numerous benefits they provide and the ways in which policies can support and guide their development remain unclear.

The FOODCITYBOOST project aims to explore the current and future conditions influencing the growth of urban agriculture, as well as the potential impacts of its development in urban, peri-urban, and rural areas. We will work together to engage with multiple stakeholders and boost the sustainable development of urban and peri-urban agriculture for all.”
